Members,

Earlier this year, Unifor joined forces with CUPE and the United Steelworkers to form the Canadian Telecommunications Workers Alliance.

Now, we are calling on telecom workers and our friends and families to speak up to protect Canadian’s jobs and privacy!

Will you sign and share the petition?

On September 21, the federal government will sit in Ottawa for a new session, and we want to make sure that MPs know that Unifor members expect them to defend good telecom jobs here at home.

Over the last ten years, telecommunications companies have eliminated more than 20,000 Canadian jobs and have been offshoring data and operational control and Canadians' data and personal information to unaccountable contractors in other countries including India, the Philippines, Egypt, Morocco and the United States.

Behind the scenes, critical technical and operational work is also being moved offshore. At the same time, the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence — without appropriate safeguards — threatens to accelerate this pattern even further.

At a time when Canada faces growing geopolitical and cybersecurity challenges, telecommunications must be recognized as a highly strategic sector.

Please sign this petition to send a message to federal decision makers and your own MP. Then share it with some of your friends and family so they can support telco jobs, and their own privacy.

Together we demand that the federal government:

  • Protect our privacy by ensuring that our information and our personal data stay in Canada;
  • Reverse the trend of outsourcing Canadian telecommunications jobs overseas;
  • Strengthen Canada’s sovereignty and national security by mandating that
  • the telecommunications sector remains fully operated and supported by Canadian workers; and
  • Regulate AI to protect Canadian jobs and privacy.

Our Telecoms, Our Jobs.
