Greetings!
On September 30th, Unifor members in Newfoundland and Labrador are invited to join community members in St. John’s for the Rally for Reconciliation, hosted by First Light, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This is an opportunity to come together in remembrance and learning, honour Survivors and their families, hold space for the children who never came home, and recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of truth, healing and reconciliation.
Rally for Reconciliation
Date: Wednesday, September 30
Time: 2:00–3:30 p.m. NST
Location: Pippy Park – Northbank Lodge (Nagles Place), St. John’s
The event is open to community members of all ages, Indigenous and non-Indigenous.
What to Expect
The event will include a small Memorial Walk, featuring items, quotes and symbols connected to the history and legacy of residential schools. First Light staff will be available to provide support and guidance, including for anyone who chooses not to visit the Memorial Walk.
The event will conclude with a walk to a nearby lake where participants will have the opportunity to place an offering. Limited space will be available for those with mobility needs in accessing the ceremony area.

Other Opportunities to Learn
Members may also wish to visit The Rooms in St. John’s, which is featuring artwork created by Newfoundland and Labrador students reflecting on Truth and Reconciliation, as well as Rhythms of the Land. We encourage members to consider making time to take in these exhibits as part of their learning and reflection on September 30.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity for all of us to listen, learn, remember and reflect on our shared responsibility to advance reconciliation. We encourage Unifor members and Locals in Newfoundland and Labrador to participate in these events and support the important work of First Light and Indigenous communities.
